Sandra Jefford

Farmer, Victoria

Wilco Droppert & Sandra Jefford have been farming together since 2001, and have been on their current farm near Sale since 2011. The region has an average rainfall of about 600mm, so they are quite reliant on irrigation to grow feed for their sandy loam soil for the certified organic, 400 head dairy herd.

In 2018 they realised they had to address the large energy bills, and commenced their renewable energy journey with an energy audit. That led them on a mission to make their operations more energy efficient, and to install renewable energy infrastructure that’s integrated with the automated irrigation system. The results include dramatic cost reductions, significant labour savings, reductions to greenhouse gas emissions, less stress and more sleep.
